Supervisors, Watch Out: Overload May Cause a Crash!
The redistribution of work is inevitable and necessary when a business is going through rough times. But seldom is the decision to redistribute the work made with input from the people on the receiving end of the new assignments. This can be a big mistake. Often, managers make these decisions without a good understanding of what the employees inheriting new responsibilities already do. If a reduction in force (RIF) is the reason for new assignments, the employees may be reluctant to complain for fear their positions may be the next to go.
